WHEELING, W.V. (WTRF) — Young dancers of all abilities had the chance to take part in a one-of-a-kind workshop at Easterseals Rehabilitation Center thanks to the Dancing Wheels Company and Oglebay Institute’s School of Dance.
Dancing Wheels Company specializes in physically integrated dance, a form of dance that translates movement for performers who need a wheelchair or mobility aid.
Dancer and instructor “Lil Craig of 2Reel” says as someone whose path in the arts was more limited, it was a dream come true to be a part of something that not only fulfills his passion but shows others they can do it to.
“I didn’t know anyone who knew how to translate, I didn’t know anyone who knew how to integrate the two body types together. Then Dancing Wheels came into the picture and here we are, we’re able to learn a lot and teach others to embody these types of art.”

“For people of all abilities and people with disabilities who may or may not know about the opportunities available to them to learn, train, dance – we’re broadening the possibilities for more people and give more visibility about what we do.”

Both instructors say today’s lesson is about more than just dance; it’s about leading by example and showing there’s different ways to express your gifts.
